Over the past few months fight fans have clamored for a unification bout between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, who is regarded as the best fighter in the division, and undefeated WBO champion Sergey Kovalev, who is regarded as his biggest threat.

Kovalev has repeatedly called out Stevenson and has intensified his efforts since they both appeared on the same card this past November, with both of them stopping their respective opponents.

Stevenson said that he expected nothing less from the har punching Russian and that Kovalev wants his spot in boxing's pecking order.

"Kovalev called me out and why wouldn't he? I am number one at light heavyweight.  He is supposed to call me out. I never had a problem fighting him. The promoters job is to make the fights and I am sure they will work it out.  I have a good team and I don't think it will be a problem," Stevenson explained.

Kovalev is known for his one punch knockout power and is regarded as one of the hardest hitters in the sport. Stevenson packs a powerful punch as well and I asked him if he feels his power is being underrated with all of the hype surrounding Kovalev.

"(Laughing) Of course.  I was at 168 and I moved up to light heavyweight and knocked out Chad Dawson.  I would like to see him do that to Dawson the way I did.  Chad Dawson was a good fighter who beat Bernard Hopkins.  He still has a big name," Stevenson explained.

Stevenson draws big crowds in Quebec but said that he would love to fight a big fight in the United States. His return is tentatively scheduled for this fall.

"I would like to fight In Las Vegas or New York at some point.  That is one of my dreams," Stevenson told BoxingScene.com.
