Adrian Hernandez came in at 113 lb. during Saturday's 7-day safety weight check for his August 31 junior flyweight title defense versus Japan's Atsushi Kakutani. The bout takes place in Mexico City and will air live on Televisa.

All fighters participating in WBC-sanctioned bouts are required to perform safety weight checks 30 days and 7 days prior to their bout. The maximum allowable weight 30 days out is 10% over the contracted limit, while a fighter can weigh no more than 5% above the limit at the time of the seven-day check.

The junior flyweight limit is 108 lb. The maximum allowable weight mathematically calculates to 113.4, which the WBC rounds up (in all weight classes). In this case, Hernandez could not weigh any heavier than 114 lb., which means he was a full pound within the limit.

Of course, the two-time titlist will still have to lose five pounds between now and Friday in order to make the 108 lb. divisional limit.

Hernandez (27-2-1, 16KO) will be making the third defense of the title he regained in emphatic fashion last October, with all three defenses coming in 2012. Hernandez recovered his crown with a sixth round knockout of Kompayak Porpramook in Mexico, avenging a thrilling 10th round knockout loss 10 months prior on the road in Thailand.

Saturday's affair marks the first time Kakutani (16-3-1, 6KO) fights outside of his native Japan. The 28-year old was the scheduled opponent when the bout was originally scheduled to take place August 10. When the date changed, he was initially pulled in favor of Odilon Zaleta, but has since been reinserted as the official title challenger.
