On Tuesday IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander paid a visit to BoxingScene Radio to talk about his victory over Lee Purdy that took place Saturday night in Atlantic City.  During the fight the 26-year-old stayed in the pocket and continuously beat his opponent to the punch.  He said that they worked on using subtle movements throughout training camp.

"I knew that I was capable of standing there and being smart, trading sometimes. The game plan was to use subtle movements during the fight but I stood my ground a little more and sat on my shots after I hurt my hand," Alexander explained.

In the lead up to the fight Purdy said that he would bring the fight to Alexander and pressure him. After the first two rounds the Brit's punch output dropped dramatically as Alexander continued to pepper him with right hands. Alexander laughed when reminded of Purdy's pre-fight boasts.

"It's like that old saying, 'everyone has a plan until they get punched.' Everytime he opened up I hurt him and I think that's why he stopped throwing as much," Alexander stated.

The St. Louis native was criticized for the lack of action in his October victory over the hard punching Randall Bailey.  Alexander said he made a special point to make Saturday an action packed fight. He also said that if you look at his past fights such as last year's dominate victory over Marcos Maidana he didn't run and stood and traded with the Argentine at various points throughout the fight.

"I did plan on being entertaining this fight. I wanted to show people I don't have to run around the ring when I fight and I think did that on Saturday night. People forget I didn't run from Maidana. I boxed sometimes and I stood and punched with Maidana.

"One time with Bailey it was a subpar performance and people go off of that. This fight I did want to be more entertaining and show people I have a little more power and I think I did that. It came off real good with me only having one hand," Alexander told BoxingScene.
