Oscar De La Hoya recently fueled speculations of him coming out of retirement with a few tweets he’s posted the last couple days. On Sunday, De La Hoya tweeted “I’m really confident I can do some damage to any 54 pounder in the world, except “Saul Canelo Alvarez”.

Early yesterday morning De La Hoya tweeted two photographs of himself in a warm up suit and looking like he had been training. People immediately began suspecting the Golden Boy might be planning a comeback.

BoxingScene caught up with De La Hoya and asked if he indeed was making a comeback or if it was all simply people jumping to conclusions.

“I wish I could. Seriously. Look, I love training and I'm actually even hitting the heavy bag, working out and this and that. I love boxing. I love boxing man and it hurts me deep down inside that I can't. I just can't. I wish I could, and I want to. I wake up every single morning thinking maybe today, maybe I turned back the clock and maybe I can! But I can't, I can't do it. And it hurts me. I wish I could but I can't” revealed De La Hoya to BoxingScene.com.

We’ve seen plenty of fighters and athletes announce their retirement only to come back shortly after. For De La Hoya, the retirement appears to be permanent and he’s content being able to still be part of the sport as one of the leading promoters in boxing.

De La Hoya was in good spirits in Los Angeles as his company officially announced the Amir Khan-Carlos Molina fight taking place December 15th at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
