Former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol who was blasted through the ropes and  knocked out in the 9th round of his IBF title fight against super flyweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez in Sinaloa, Mexico on Saturday night - won’t quit despite the loss.

Manny Pacquiao’s adviser and the CEO of MP Promotions Michael Koncz, who handles the 31 year old Mayol - said he was informed by a key official of Fernando Beltran’s Zanfer Promotions , Juan Carlos, that “it was a tremendous fight.”

Koncz said he was told “it was a very competitive fight in which Mayol dropped the champion in the fifth round in a title bout that went back and forth.”

He said Sanchez apparently caught Mayol with some solid shots in the eighth round and that’s what set the stage for the knockout.

Mayol had Sanchez in trouble in the early rounds and appeared to be ahead on the scorecards of the judges.

However, Sanchez who was biding his time took charge by the seventh round with some good  and opened up a cut above the right eyebrow following an accidental clash of heads.

Koncz conceded that Mayol began to fade and the bad beating he took in the eighth round hurt him and caused the knockout when a devastating left-right combination by Sanchez sent the Filipino flying out of the ring and onto the TV commentators table to be counted out by referee Allen Huggins at 2:25 of the ninth round.

Despite the knockout Koncz said Mayol “earned a decent payday and we are not done yet. He will take a rest and get back into the gym because he fought a good fight and you must remember he lost to the champion. ”

Koncz said he would review the tape before they finally decide on what to do in terms of Mayol’s career.
