Diego and Jesse Magdaleno have become fixtures on the Las Vegas boxing scene with their increasingly impressive performances as of late.  The hometown heroes both sport unbeaten records and are approaching different junctures in their respective careers.

While Diego (23-0, 9 KOs) has risen to No. 3 in the WBO junior lightweight rankings, Jesse (11-0, 8 KOs) has finished six of his 11 victims in the first round.

The Magdaleno brothers, who train out of Barry’s Boxing and are promoted by Top Rank, spoke briefly to BoxingScene.com on their respective roads ahead.

“We’re thinking some time in December,” Diego said about his return.

So far this year, the 25-year-old Diego came off the canvas against Fernando Beltran to knock out his foe in the seventh, and then coolly stopped Antonio Davis last month in four.

“Experience,” Diego said about his improvement.  “I take every fight, gain a lot of experience, and we just go from there.  I’ll be there Saturday at the fight to see who’s going to be my possible opponent.”

That potential rival could either be Roman Martinez or Miguel Beltran, who will clash for the vacant WBO 130-pound crown.

At the time of the interview, Beltran had failed to make weight, but would later make it on the second try.  When asked if he had a preference as far as the winner, Diego was indifferent.

“Hopefully Beltran gets down and he gets his stuff together because I’m coming for it—that title,” Diego said.  “It doesn’t matter who has it, because I’m going to take it.”

As for Jesse, he’s also looking to build off a second-round technical knockout of Aldimar Silva Santos in August.

“I’m hopefully looking at the end of October, but I’ll leave it up to Top Rank,” Jesse said.

The 20-year-old is still growing into his frame, but he won’t be joining the featherweight ranks anytime soon.

“Right now 122 [pounds] is my weight class,” Jesse added.  “I’m a small guy.  Maybe I’ll move to 126 later on, but I’m really comfortable at 122.”
