Great Britain trio Obed Mbwakongo, Danny Price and Tommy Stubbs have been axed from the full-time podium squad, the British Amateur Boxing Association have confirmed.

Mbwakongo suffered his sixth consecutive loss at last month's European Championships in Ankara while neither Price nor Stubbs are considered to have made enough progress.

Mbwakongo's dismissal leaves Great Britain without an elite light-heavyweight heading towards the World Championships - which double as the first Olympic qualifier - in September.

Performance director Rob McCracken has invited newly-crowned ABA cruiserweight champion Deion Jumah for a trial with the squad in Sheffield. Jumah is from the same Dale Youth club which yielded Olympic champion James DeGale.

A spokesperson for the British Amateur Boxing Association said: "I can confirm that Obed Mbwakango, Danny Price and Tommy Stubbs have been released from the GB Boxing squad.

"The demands of elite international amateur boxing are very different to those at domestic level and their performances and results in tournaments over the last 12 months have not indicated that they are able to meet these demands.
