Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas - In a welterweight contest, Sebastian Lujan (38-5-2, 24KOs) punished and dropped Mark Melligen (21-3, 14KOs) four times to score a ninth round knockout. Lujan, who took the fight on a few days notice, raises his unbeaten streak to twelve and remains undefeated since 2007. Melligen's win streak ends with five.

The fight opened up with a very fast pace. Lujan very willing to engage by coming forward with wild punches. He would lean against Melligen, pressing him against the ropes and threw many punches in every direction. In the second round, a cut opened up above the right eye of Melligen. The tide changed in the fourth round, with Lujan attacking and landing hard shots to the head of Melligen. Some of the rounds were hard to score because Lujan threw many more punches, but it was Melligen who was more accurate.

In the sixth round, a big right hand dropped Melligen right in the corner. He made it up at the count of eight. Lujan went back to the tactics that were working, pressure and high volume punching. They were trading punches with both hands in the seventh round against the ropes. A flurry of punches put Melligen down for the second time in the contest in the final twenty seconds.

In the closing seconds of the eight round, a right hand from Lujan put Melligen down for the third time in the fight. In the ninth round, Lujan landed a series of punches that put Melligen down for the count. The ref waved it off and the ringside doctor entered the ring to check on the Filipino boxer.

In a four round lightweight bout, Ivan Najera (2-0, 2KOs) stopped Pedro Martinez (2-1, 1KOs) after one round. It was a war in the first round with both boxers exchanging a lot of punches. When Martinez went back to the corner at the end of the first round, he told his corner that he injured his arm and the fight was stopped.

super featherweight contender Mickey Bey (17-0, 9KOs) landed a single counter right hand in the round four to drop Alejandro Rodriguez (12-4, 6KOs). Rodriguez beat the count but then stumbled on his own and fell back to the mat. The ref waved off the match. Bey had dominated the action with his fast hands and accurate shots. A good win for Bey, who had a very lackluster eight round majority draw with Jose Hernandez on the Nonito Doanire-Fernando Montiel undercard in February.
