Uruguayan Noe "El Carbonero" Gonzalez (27-1, 19KOS), prevailed over tough Mexican Ruben Padilla (18-3) in nine rounds with a technical knockout to retain his silver super middleweight title of World Boxing Council (WBC) in an exciting battle that headlined a card at Estadio Cr. Gaston Guelfi/ Palacio Peñarol in Montevideo, Uruguay. The event was promoted by Sampson Boxing LLC and Sergio Marquez Boxing Productions LLC.

Gonzalez often landed his right hand to Padilla's jaw to keep him back and later added occasional hooks to the body. In the ninth, Gonzalez hit a powerful right cross on the button, which forced Padilla down to a knee. American referee Steve Smoger had seen enough and intervened to stop the contest at 2:16.
