The often tense relationship between WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and trainer/uncle Evangelista Cotto reached a boiling point during a day of training camp on Wednesday afternoon in Puerto Rico.

The relationship between the two may be over. In the past the two have had disputes during camp, but nothing like this.

According to several reports from major news outlets and newspapers in Puerto Rico, a verbal dispute led to an actual brawl between Cotto and his uncle.

At around 3:15PM, before a packed Bairoa Gym in Caguas, Puerto Rico, the two were involved in a heated argument over the training plan for Cotto's upcoming bout against Joshua Clottey on June 13 in New York's Madison Square Garden.

Miguel had a new training plan that Evangelista did not agree with, leading to a serious war of words. Their disagreement escalated to the point where Cotto ultimately fired his uncle as head trainer.

According to Puerto Rico newspaper Primera Hora , about thirty minutes after being fired, the drama would escalate further.

Evangelista physically attacked Miguel, who in turn defended himself by throwing several punches back. A police spokesperson told the paper that Miguel suffered a cut on top of his nose.

After the two were separated, Miguel went back to his apartment. Apparently, Evangelista would follow him and the drama between the two of them continued at the apartment.

The paper wrote that things got uglier when Evangelista threw a cement block in the direction of Cotto. The block missed the fighter, but went through the window of his brand new car. Police were called to the scene, but neither party was arrested. Cotto and his uncle may end up filing charges against each other.
