Carl Frampton says newly crowned IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington is made for him.

Frampton, 31, and a two-weight world champion returns to the fold on August 18 at Windsor Park in Belfast.

'The Jackal' had hoped he would be facing the winner of Lee Selby and Josh Warrington, who fought on May 19, but will now have to turn his attention elsewhere for what will be a very special night outdoors in front of his home fans.

Having watched Selby v Warrington from close quarters while working for BT Sport, during their broadcast from Elland Road, Leeds, Frampton says that facing him will be an entirely different proposition for the new champ.

"He won't be just walking through my punches the way he did against Selby," he said in his May 27 column for Sunday Life.

"I don't want to take anything away from Warrington's win because I expected him to lose and clearly, but Selby was dead at the weight and that was obvious from the start. Even in the first round there was one point when Warrington threw him off like he was a rag doll. Selby wasn't able to get set to throw a decent punch, there was nothing of any note coming back at Warrington so he was able to do what he wanted."

Frank Warren, who promotes both Frampton and Warrington, told Boxing Scene last week that he still hopes to make the fight for later in the year, possibly on neutral territory due to the fanbase of each man, and no indoor venue in their home cities of Belfast and Leeds being big enough to hold the fight.

"It's going to build up into one of the most anticipated fights in the UK at the moment because of the way he beat Selby with his all-action front foot approach," noted Frampton in his column.

"With both of us being promoted by Frank Warren, it's a fight that can easily be made and will happen - and that should be a real treat for the fans."
