This September, we may or may not get the anticipated rematch between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The two boxers were set to fight this coming Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

But, Canelo withdrew from the contest two weeks ago - in aftermath of testing positive for banned substance clenbuterol back in February.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission imposed a six month suspension on Canelo, which make him capable of fighting against by August.

He intends to fight again in September, during Mexican Independence Day weekend on the 15th of the month - and Golovkin is the target.

Golovkin will first have to overcome substitute opponent, Vanes Martirosyan on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Even if Golovkin wins, he's feels the probability of a fall rematch with Canelo is very low.

Back when they collided in September, and fought for twelve rounds to a controversial draw, Golovkin made the vast majority of the concessions to make the fight happen. And when the deal for the rematch was made, Golovkin also made the majority of the concessions.

This time around, given what transpired with Canelo's testing snafu, Golovkin is not planning to make the majority of the concessions again.

“I would say it’s about a 10 percent probability at this point that it happens,” Golovkin told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports. “I would say only about 10 percent that it happens.”

“I think 10 percent is high; it’s bigger than it should be. I made 99 percent of the concessions for the fight with Canelo on May 5. Ninety-nine percent of them were by me, and now he’s the one not here.”

Despite Canelo coming up clean in numerous tests, and even passing a hair follicle test, Golovkin is not sold that Canelo is a clean fighter.

Last month, Golovkin had accused Canelo of being a longtime user of performance enhancing drugs.

To erase any remaining doubt, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has already stated that Canelo is willing to test every single day until the date of the rematch.

Talk is cheap, says Golovkin.

“Oscar can say that, but he can say anything, you know?” Golovkin said. “Don’t talk. Do it. That’s it. Do the tests.”
