Soon after battering Lamont Peterson in Brooklyn, Errol Spence once again had a message for fellow welterweight champion Keith Thurman.

Spence made the first defence of his IBF world title on Saturday night with an eighth-round TKO. With 'The Truth' dominating proceedings, Peterson's trainer Barry Hunter decided he had seen enough and pulled his man out.

Peterson was unable to make a dent on Spence's chin - who walked through the few punches that landed flush. By the end, it was one-way traffic with Spence battering Peterson around the ring.

23-0 Spence hopes to unify against WBC and WBA 'Super' Champion Thurman, who after the fight tweeted, "be patient, your time is coming".

"Y’all know it’s strap season. Y’all seen that dude Keith Thurman. He gonna do a post. We ain’t waiting on Keith," Spence said in response. "I’m going to smoke him easy. He ain’t talking about nothing."

The Texas talent plans to defend his belt in Dallas in a summer homecoming, most likely against a mandatory challenger, before aiming to secure a unification later this year. The date is slated to fall potentially in April, May or June.

Meanwhile Thurman is planning to return from an injury layoff in the spring. Due to an elbow injury that required surgery, Thurman has been inactive since defeating Danny Garcia last March to unify the WBA, WBC straps. He's rumored to be fighting former world champion Jessie Vargas next.

Another pair of future opponents will be fighting April, when Terence Crawford takes part in his first welterweight fight by taking on undefeated WBO titlist Jeff Horn.
