For the time being WBA 130-pound titlist Jason Sosa (20-1-4, 15 KOs)  has a blank 2017 itinerary.

"We don't have anything scheduled, right now,''his promoter, Russel Peltz admitted to BoxingScene.com  in a recent interview. "Eric Gomez (president of Golden Boy Promotions) had called me a few months ago to fight (Francisco) Vargas and I said 'yes' and we never heard from him again."

Vargas will defend his WBC super featherweight title against Miguel Berchelt on January 28th from the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California on HBO.

''Then we offered Stephen Smith a rematch in Liverpool and we were told that he had been so beaten up in the first fight they don't even know if he'd be able to fight before June," Peltz continued.

Back on November 12th, Sosa defeated Smith via 12-round decision in Monaco in what was his first title defense. Peltz says there was talk of Sosa being added to the Miguel Cotto-James Kirkland pay-per-view card on February 25th - "but for some reason the TV people knocked it out, I don't know why."

Back in June, Sosa stopped Javier Fortuna in 11 rounds in China to capture this title. The contract for this fight called for an eventual rematch if Sosa came out victorious.

Peltz explained - "We have to fight him in one of the three options. We got one option out of the way. We'd have to fight him either in the second or third option and there's also talk of unifying the title with Jezreel Corrales depending on what he wants to do."

When asked if he'd consider a bout with Orland Salido, Peltz answered - "Oh absolutely, absolutely."

Sosa-Salido figures to be a good fight.

"God forbid!!! God forbid a good fight!!," said Peltz, sarcastically. "I mean, c'mon it's a terrific fight but I don't know what HBO is doing. Showtime doesn't seem like they're interested in doing business. I don't know."
