Mexico's rising star Rey Vargas will go for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight title against Britain's Gavin McDonnell on February 25 in London, England.

This was confirmed by Vargas' promoter Oswaldo Küchle, who said that he's only waiting for the contract to sign it, but the date for the fight between Vargas and McDonnell is already established.

"Yesterday night I closed it with Eddie Hearn, who is the most important promoter in Europe. We closed it by word and I'm just waiting for the contract today to sign in the next 24 hours, but it will be on February 25tt," Kuchle told Fox Deportes.

He stressed that the unbeaten Mexican, who has a 28-0 record with 22 wins by knockout, will have the opportunity to demonstrate what he has done.

"He has worked hard and he has been constant in the gym, and he won the final eliminator," the promoter said..

He made it clear that in addition to the purse that Vargas will secure for the contest, a win in a foreign country and to capture a world title will have a double merit for Otumba, Mexico.

Vargas is trained by Hall of Fame coach Nacho Beristain, who is bets known for his work with former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

McDonell has an undefeated record of 16-0-2, with 4 knockouts. He is the twin brother of WBA bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell.

The WBC title became vacant when champion Hozumi Hasegawa of Japan announced his retirement from the sport a few weeks ago.
