It was announced on Friday morning that former IBF bantamweight titlist Randy Caballero had signed a promotional deal that will see him return to Golden Boy Promotions, which had guided him to his world title.

As for when he'd get back in the ring, Robert Diaz the lead matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, told BoxingScene.com:

"Hopefully in the first quarter we'd like to get him back. I know he's been in the gym training. I know he was ready for a fight on the 17th (of December) so the main thing is right after the holidays get him right back in the gym training. I know he's eager to get back in the ring in front of his people. So hopefully by maybe late February, early March, right around there."

Back in October of 2014, Caballero captured the vacant IBF title by out-pointing Stuart Hall over twelve rounds. Last November he was scheduled to defend his belt on the Saul Alvarez-Miguel Cotto undercard at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas - but lost his crown as he failed to make weight. He was 5.5-pounds overweight and the entire fight was canceled.

Since that point he's fought just once this year, back on February 5th at the Fantasy Springs Casino he halted Ruben Hernandez in seven.

According to Diaz, the plan is for the 26-year old Caballero (who has a record of 23-0, 14 KO's) to campaign at super bantamweight.

"I think right now 122 is what the goal is. Try to get his second world title at 122 and then eventually, when he feels like it's his time to move up to 126 where a lot of the bigger names will be," stated Diaz.
