A deal has been reached for a fight between former world champion Antonio Margarito (39-8, 27KOs) and Ramon Alvarez (23-4-2, 15KOs), who is the older brother of former two-division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

The fight is going to take place on July 30th, likely in Monterrey, Mexico, according to ESPN Deportes. TV Azteca would televise the contest in Mexico and beIN Sports in the United States.

Margarito broke a four year retirement in March, when he returned to the ring to win a ten round unanimous decision over Jorge Paez Jr. in a junior middleweight contest in Mexico City.

The return of Margarito was not without a major scare. He was knocked down very hard in the sixth round and seemed to be very hurt from the punch. The moment came at the end of the round which may have been a blessing for the former welterweight world champion.

Margarito hopes the fight with Alvarez (23-4-2, 15KOs) will lead to a future fight with Canelo.

Alvarez was seen in the ring back in January, when he knocked out James Winchester in nine rounds of action in Rosarito, Mexico. He's built a win streak of nine fights, which includes names like Ben Tackie, Vivian Harris and Omar Chavez.

"I would love to beat the brother and then go against Canelo. They say Canelo is a fighter who sells. I think it would be a good fight because lately I've felt better, and I've shaken off the rust I had and I am working better. I think Canelo is missing elite level opponents. They talk about the punch of Canelo but he did nothing against Cotto and Amir Khan was logical, because he faced a super lightweight. To me, he is not what they are making him out to be," Margarito recently said.
