Unfairly, the World Boxing Association (WBA) stripped Juan Manuel Marquez of his "super champion" status at lightweight, arguing that the Mexican fighter has not defended his title in the last 18 months against a mandatory challenger.

"We totally condemn the ruling of WBA. Our company Zanfer will defend our fighter to the very end. A fighter such as Juan Manuel Marquez is a great example to the boxing world. We are going to send a letter immediately to the offices of the WBA and ask them to reconsider their decision on Juan Manuel. We are also asking for an explanation on this unfair action against our fighter," Beltran said.

"We hope that by sending the letter the leaders of the WBA, they will reconsider and realize the error and injustice committed against Juan Manuel and what it represents," states the promoter Tijuana.

Considering that Marquez defended his title in November 2010, 18 months to defend the title will expire in May 2012, so the WBA's official argument loses validity.
