Yuriorkis Gamboa: record, next fight and profile →
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—Devin Haney has returned, though whether he has truly arrived is all in the eye of the beholder. The unbeaten lightweight titlist made his second successful defense in a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Miami’s Yuriorkis Gamboa in their DAZN-streamed main event Saturday evening at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood...

HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—With the fights that are there to be made at his weight, Devin Haney doesn’t want to hear any more excuses for the other lightweights refusing to look his way. After all, it’s how he has arrived at his current dilemma. The unbeaten titlist from Las Vegas returns to the ring for the first time in 52 weeks, fully recovered from shoulder surgery and ready to take over the 135-pound division. The first step comes in a scheduled 12-round title defense versus Miami’s Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs), which takes place Saturday evening live on DAZN from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—Devin Haney’s next ring appearance couldn’t come at a better time. The unbeaten lightweight titlist returns after a 52-week absence, in part due to recovery from a shoulder injury with the rest compromised due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, Haney (24-0, 15KOs) hasn’t missed out on much, and in fact with this weekend’s title defense versus Miami’s Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs) comes at a time when all of his top divisional peers have either just fought or are prepared to make their way to the ring in the near future.
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—The quest for Devin Haney to outperform his predecessors does not come with a time limit. The 21-year young lightweight titlist doesn’t feel any pressure to get rid of Yuriorkis Gamboa any sooner than the pace of their bout will dictate. Las Vegas’ Haney (24-0, 15KOs) is well aware of the expectation to outdo what unbeaten boxing stars Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis before him were able to accomplish against the Cuban export. It’s a goal expected to be met, though on his terms.
Sign up Devin Haney for a fight against undisputed Teofimo Lopez in 2021. As far as Haney is concerned, he is not one to shy away from a fight against any of the top lightweights in the division, including Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis.
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—Yuriorkis Gamboa isn’t just here for a payday. He’s here for the multitude of opportunities which currently exist in the lightweight division. “This division is hot right now, it’s very hot,” Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs) told BoxingScene.com ahead of his next ring adventure.
Teofimo Lopez completely disagrees with Devin Haney on whether Lopez is boxing’s undisputed lightweight champion. Lopez obviously believes his victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko validated him as the true WBC 135-pound champion. Haney contends that he is the legitimate WBC lightweight champ because Lopez captured the WBC’s “franchise” championship from Lomachenko, a distinction that was not supposed to be transferable when the WBC introduced it in June 2019.
Devin Haney wants to show Team Gamboa that he’s an elite fighter as he defends his WBC World Lightweight crown against Yuriorkis Gamboa tomorrow night (November 7) at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Florida, live on DAZN.
