Yomar Alamo Blasts Zsigmond Vaas in One For WBC Youth Belt

Yomar 'The Magic' Alamo ( 14-0, 11KO ) from Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, viciously defeated Hungarian Zsigmond Vaas ( 13-6, 2KO ) in the first round to become WBC's super lightweight Youth World Champion in an exciting fight held at the Samuel 'Sammy' Rodríguez Coliseum in Aguas Buenas.

A Youth World Title had never been held in Puerto Rico.

An excited Álamo stated: "I am thrilled to have won this world title in front of my home fans! I will carry my title with dignity and cannot wait to defend it in Puerto Rico or abroad. I am ready."

Meanwhile, the promoter of the event, Carlos Maldonado, from Black Tiger Promotions, stated: "I will continue to present the best shows in Puerto Rico for the fans. We promoted last year in San Juan the biggest show in Puerto Rico in a long time (JuanMa lopez v. Wilfredo Vázquez) and now an event with a world title in Aguas Buenas. I am an innovator. I am ready for the next challenge. I am meeting on Monday with Gaby to begin planning."

IN OTHER NEWS: On the eve of the 29th Summer Universiade, AIBA and the International School Sport Federation (ISF) have today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Taipei, committing to the joint exploration of boxing as a means of physical and educational development for young people. AIBA agrees to use its expertise to assist with the technical aspects of ISF Schools Competitions, and its coaching infrastructure to ensure safe dissemination of best practice and the latest techniques around the world.

“The values that AIBA and the ISF share are instrumental in ensuring the success of this partnership for the benefit of young people around the world. For many years, education has been a priority for AIBA and, now more than ever, sport has a vital role to play in the social as well as physical education and wellbeing of young people. AIBA looks forward to cooperating with the ISF to bring new opportunities and inspiring future young boxers around the world,” said AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.

The agreement will see AIBA and the ISF combine resources and efforts to meet their respective objectives in promoting boxing among young people as a tool which helps foster the values of mutual respect, dedication and friendship. AIBA’s expertise will be used to draft specific technical regulations for new events as well as providing coaching know-how, while ISF events will be made available for the practical assessment of young officials

“Boxing is one of the most enduring and universal of all sports, and its popularity is as strong as ever among people of all ages the world over. The ISF knows that every sport has the power to bring structure and hope to the lives of young people, but boxing involves a unique code among athletes that, alongside AIBA, we want to promote through new School Sport competitions and events,” said ISF President Laurent Petrynka.

The implementation of this cooperation will begin during the 2018 Gymnasiade held in Morocco from 2-9 May 2018.
