The World Pugilism Commission (WPC), an organization based in Buenos Aires, provided medical documents to guarantee the health of former world champion Carlos "Tata" Baldomir, who on Friday goes up against unbeaten Russian Andrey Meriasev in Mérida, Yucatán , Mexico.

The WPC is contradicting a statement released by the Federation of Boxing in Argentina, who warned Mexican authorities to prevent the Argentine veteran from going forward with this fight.

The WPC ensures that Baldomir passed his medical examination and was licensed as a professional boxer under the WPC for one year. Moreover, the WPC noted that is was Baldomir who chose not to complete the renewal of his professional license with the Argentine Federation.

Baldomir has been inactive since getting knocked out in four rounds by Marco Antonio Rubio in four rounds in September of 2012. Meryasev (15-0, 11KOs) has never fought outside of Eastern Europe.
