Winky Wright's Withdrawal Leaves Macklin Hanging

Middleweight Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19 KOs) is gutted after learning that Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) withdrew from their scheduled fight with a hand injury. Wright, who hoped to return after a two year break, injured his right hand in training. The fight was going to take place on April 9th, as part of the pay-per-view undercard to Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Macklin, the current EBU (European) middleweight champion, inked with Golden Boy Promotions to make a name for himself in the United States, but now his status on the show is unknown. Wright, 39-years-old, has not fought since April 2009, when he was dominated by Paul Williams.

Only fight that makes remote sense for Winky would be Kelly Pavlik or Mayorga... Or better yet... thanks for the thrillers and retire
