The teams behind Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22KOs) and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34KOs) are in talks for a mandatory clash, according to the Russian fighter's promoter Andrei Ryabinsky of World of Boxing.

Upon the completion of that fight, the WBC will order the winner to face Povetkin next. Povetkin fought on November 4th and stopped Mariusz Wach in the twelfth round.

Ryabinsky is open to having the fight in the United States if Wilder's team, which is led by Al Haymon, ensures the fight will be promoted like a major event.

"We have entered into negotiations with Wilder's team for the organization of the fight, but we are just exchanging opinions right now. My position is this, if we reach an agreement we can hold the fight in America, but I have only one condition - this battle should be a very well-promoted event that will be viewed by the whole world," Ryabinsky said.

"If for some reason we do not reach an agreement, there will be purse bids - where either they will spend a lot of money to buy the rights to the fight and stage it, or I will claim the rights for big money and stage the fight in Russia."

"We don't know anything about the date yet. After January 16 we'll know."
