World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33 KO´s) made the first defense of his title on June 13th in stopping Eric Molina in nine rounds, and wants to return to the ring on Sepetmber 26th though NBC.
No opponent has been confirmed at the moment. Several names have been kicked around, like Chris Arreola. One person it won't be is WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin of Russia - at least not next.
Wilder, who was at the ringside for Danny García vs. Paulie Malignaggi last Saturday night, commented:
“I don’t fear anyone. When I became WBC world champion I promised to be an active champion. I don’t want to fight only for money. I want to fight against those who are willing to take my belt from me. I want real challenges. The only thing I can do is to keep training."
“The official contender is Alexander Povetkin and this fight is already in negotiations. I don’t believe he will be my next opponent, but I am willing to have that fight soon. That fight has to happen."
