As BoxingScene.com previously reported, WBC champion Deontay Wilder is in talks to fight undefeated Cuban puncher Luis Ortiz on March 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

They were scheduled to fight each other last month, but the bout was called off after Ortiz failed a pre-fight drug test.

Ortiz was later cleared by the World Boxing Council, after the sanctioning body determined that he was taking prescription medication for his high blood pressure. But, it was also the second time in Ortiz's career when he flunked a drug test due to a banned substance.

Ortiz was replaced in that fight by Bername Stiverne, who was blown away in a single round after three rapid knockdowns before it was waved off. Stiverne was completely unconscious at the time of the stoppage.

Earlier this month in Miami, Wilder was ringside when Ortiz blasted out Daniel Martz in the second round at Hialeah Park in Miami, Florida.

After the fight, the two of them traded words in the ring, face to face, before a televised audience on Fox Sports 1.

“I don’t want no excuses when I beat him. So, I asked Ortiz when he wanted to fight, and he said he’s ready now. So I’m definitely going to pursue this fight, trying to get him to sign and be in the ring," Wilder said to Premier Boxing Champions. "I think I’ll get him in four rounds.”

As far as Ortiz's history with failing drug tests, Wilder is going to monitor everything to ensure the fight goes through this time around.

“I’m staying on top of him as far as the drug testing. I hope he’s not dumb enough to make the same mistake again,” Wilder said. “I didn’t see anything new, but I still think he’s one of the best in the world. He showed he’s back, and I’m glad he’s back. I want to give him another chance to make this fight.”
