"Ladies and gentleman, boxing is back in Toronto," is what the announcer proclaimed to start the night and for the hundreds of boxing fans in attendance, it wasn't soon enough.

The sport has been sporadic in its dedication to the Toronto market over the years, something Lee Baxter Promotions is hoping to change with his quarterly "The Next Generation" series.

The first in the expected series took place on July 28 at the famed Danforth Music Hall. In the main event, Steven Wilcox ran his professional record to 14-1-1 with an eight-round unanimous decision over Juan Orozco of Mexico.

Wilcox used his reach and movement to outmaneuver Orozco, keeping him at range and landing punches in combination to take the win. Wilcox is expected to return to the ring on Oct. 1 in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario.

The co-main event was a dull affair between Ontario's Tim Cronin and Slovakia's Kristof Demendi. Cronin controlled the pace over six rounds, but did little to capitalize on Demendi's unwillingness to throw punches.

Heavyweight Mladen Miljas made his professional debut in impressive fashion, using his good movement, reach and power to dominate an overmatched David Vyletel. In a country with few heavyweight prospects, Miljas could quickly rise through the ranks thanks to physical abilities.

Prior to the main event, promoter Lee Baxter announced that he had bought the contract of highly-touted Canadian contender Logan McGuinness (23-0-1). He told BoxingScene.com that he expects McGuinness to return to the ring in November.
