WBC: Thompson Will Not Receive Antonio DeMarco Shot

Mexican puncher Sergio Thompson (22-2, 20KOs) will not receive a mandatory shot at WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco, according to WBC President Jose Sulaiman. Last Saturday night at the Oasis Hotel Complex in Cancun, Mexico - Thompson stopped mandatory challenger Jorge Linares (31-3, 20KOs) in two rounds. The fight was billed as a "WBC eliminator" but Sulaiman says the bout was not a "final eliminator."

Linares was scheduled to face DeMarco (27-2-1, 20KOs) in a rematch on July 7th in Los Angeles. DeMarco will now have the opportunity to take a voluntary defense against an opponent of his choosing.

"Thompson was the number 16th [ranked contender] on the charts and he won overwhelmingly but he can not climb the [ratings] pole directly to [number] one. The ratings committee will find a good position [in the ratings] for Sergio and later he may be appointed as the challenger."

It's only a final eliminator for Linares, WBC is at it again.

Thompson is an odd last name for a Mexican. Any theorys on that?

At least one conspiracy teary can be debatable, that the WBC only scrues up fighters from other countries other than mexicans, now we know is everyone that does not have a good name marquee.

I see, so it's an eliminator to an eliminator to another eliminator to the final eliminator where then you have to go fight for the silver title then fight another eliminator and then you might just get your shot at…

I am sick of the WBC and their politics. I bet they find a way to give Linares a title shot while Sergio Thompson sits and waits.
