Jose Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, has opened the door for a possible fight between the WBC's Diamond champion at middleweight, Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26KOs), and the man positioned at number 1 in the WBC's middleweight rankings, Marco Antonio Rubio (52-5-1, 45KOs).
Both of the boxers have been pressing the WBC to get a mandatory shot at their champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In order to settle the dispute over which fighter should get the first crack, Sulaiman feels the two of them should fight each other.
Sulaiman said - "it would be an interesting battle in Latin American and on a global scale, as Martinez is one of the best fighters pound for pound, while Rubio is a spectacular fighter with a devastating punch, and if both of them want to fight each other - they can go ahead."
Chavez faces Peter Manfredo Jr. on November 19, and Martinez is scheduled to face Darren Barker on October 1.
