World Boxing Council (WBC) president Mauricio Sulaiman is shaking his head at the recent public statements that were made by Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs), who last week issued a press release to make it clear that he was NOT fighting Gennady Golovkin for the WBC middleweight title.

Canelo will face Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) on September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the card.

Canelo is only planning to fight Golovkin for the WBA and IBF world titles. He is not paying any fees to the WBC or IBO - which also have Golovkin as their world champion.

Golovkin's handlers quickly issued a press release of  their own, making it clear that GGG would defend all four world titles - regardless of Canelo's willingness to fight for them. If Canelo wins, he would capture the IBF, WBA titles and the WBC, IBO belts would likely become vacant.

The feud between Canelo and the WBC has been brewing since last year, when the Mexican star was the WBC middleweight champion. He claims the sanctioning body tried to pressure him into reaching an immediate deal for a mandatory fight with Golovkin. Canelo claims he was threatened with the likelihood of a purse bid being called - so he vacated the title.

The WBC would then hand over the vacant belt to Golovkin - an action that infuriated Canelo even further, because GGG captured the belt without actually having to fight for it.

Back in May, Canelo rejected the WBC's request to have a commemorative title belt at stake in his fight with countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

"The only thing that the WBC has done is support the career of [Canelo] in every way, in his personal and professional life. We do not know what is happening or what the problems are. Maybe he received some wrong information. For the WBC, there is no problem," Sulaiman said.

"Nobody was caught by surprise or abused [in the situation with Golovkin] and there was no additional pressure [placed on Canelo]. On the contrary, there was flexibility [for him]. Golovkin is the champion and in the upcoming fight he will defend the title of the WBC."

"I've gotten tired of these children's actions, [Canelo] tries to divert attention [away from the fight] and there is nothing there [in terms of a problem]. He should simply dedicate himself to training and fighting, because that is important."
