World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has ordered that Omar Figueroa (22-0-1, 17KOs) must defend his WBC lightweight title against mandatory challenger Daniel Estrada (32-2-1, 24KOs).
Figueroa was going to return on March 8th as part of the Saul Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo undercard, where he was going to face Ricardo Alvarez, but Figueroa injured his hand during camp and was forced to withdraw.
"Figueroa was allowed an optional defense and he was given permission to face Ricardo Alvarez.. But he suffered an injury and lost that opportunity, so now he should go against Daniel Estrada, who is the primary challenger and has been waiting for this opportunity," Sulaiman said.
