Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Gilberto Mendoza, leader of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and Daryl Peoples, head of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), met in Playa del Carmen where they agreed to target a tournament of champions for 2015. They want to encourage their champions in each division to face each other.

"We decided to take a final design for a tournament of champions , so that only one fighter can be recognized as world champion. There is a long way to go, but it is a fact," said Sulaiman. "We are going to try to form a platform so the promoters can make the best fights. People are becoming more demanding with the events, they want the best to face against the best and that is what we must do.

Another topic discussed is a mid-point system - which the WBA uses in some of their overseas fights - where a round can be scored 8.5, 9.5, etc.

"One step important will be the midpoints, to try to get justice in fights and people being more satisfied with the results and to closer the reality of combat, but that will be the subject of a study," said Mendoza.

The WBO did not attend the meeting.
