Watson Family Continues To Give Back To The Community

By Luis Sandoval

The Watson family has become staple in boxing and are three of the most recognized faces during big fights. You’ll often see Sam Watson and his two sons Marcus and Brandon in the ring with some of the biggest names in the sport as their role is to support and take care of all Al Haymon fighters.

What you don’t often get to see is how the The Watsons give back to the community and put on charity events every year. Their most recent event was the Watson Christmas Classic Charity Basketball game which raised funds and awareness for organizations that serve the less fortunate in South Central Los Angeles. For $10 or a toy and $5, fans were able to attend a celebrity basketball game which included some of boxing’s biggest stars such as Floyd Mayweather, Adrien Broner, and Danny Garcia.

“We put on these events every year and always have the community come out and have fun. We love giving back” said Marcus Watson regarding their events.

The basketball event which took place Sunday night at Westchester High School was a success and full of entertainment. There was a live DJ playing music, food, games, and a live performance by recording artist Jinsu. Some of the kids the event was benefiting were also on hand to partake in all the festivities.

This is the 8th year the Watsons put on this event and next year they plan to take it to an even bigger arena to accommodate more people. The Watsons themselves are from Inglewood, CA and it’s important to them to continue to provide their communities with special events such as this one and helping those less fortunate in the process.

From talking to fans who attended, they had nothing but great things to say as it was a positive experience and lots of fun as the fighters mingled with those in attendance and signed autographs after the game.

“It’s great to put on these type of events. All the people you saw out there are also friends and family who always come out and support. It’s great to see everyone enjoying themselves and helping a good cause” Brandon Watson would share.
