Tszyu Says The Klitschko Era Will Eventually Pass

Everything comes to an end, says Hall of Fame former world champion Kostya Tszyu. The boxer says the heavyweight domination by Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko is no different. Tszyu, now a trainer, will prepare Alexander Povetkin for his mandatory fight with Wladimir on October 5th in Moscow, Russia. Tszyu says the Klitschko brothers are not to blame for their one-sided victories. There is nothing anyone can do about the current landscape of the heavyweight division, but sooner or later everything changes.

King Eyes $2 Million For Stiverne's Klitschko Purse?

According to reports in the Russian press, promoter Don King requested a purse of $2 million dollars, and the American television rights, for Bermane Stiverne's mandatory challenge of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-4, 41KOs). Stiverne (23-1-1, 20KOs) became the mandatory challenger after winning a final eliminator against Chris Arreola last month.

The Vice President of the Professional Boxing Federation of Russia, Andrei Ryabinsky, said that he plans to invite a number of legendary boxers to the fall showdown between WBO/IBF/IBO/WBA heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 50KOs) and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17KOs). The event will take place in Moscow, Russia. To seal the deal, Povetkin must defeat Andrzej Wawrzyk on May 17th, also in Moscow. Ryabinsky says former champion Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are going to attend Klitschko-Povetkin.

Manuel Charr has vowed to knock out Briton David Haye and set up a rematch with world champion Vitali Klitschko. Charr lost to Klitschko last September, although the fight was stopped due to a cut. The German insists he would have won the contest had he been allowed to continue but now faces a battle to get back into world-title contention. Johnathon Banks, heavyweight contender and trainer for unified champion Wladimir Klitschko, says two-division king David Haye (26-2, 24KOs) needs to earn his title shot like everyone else in the division. Haye fought and lost to Wladimir in 2011. He retired afterwards, but came back last year and knocked out Dereck Chisora. He once again appeared to be on the verge of retirement, and then signed a deal with promoter Eddie Hearn for at least four more fights.

Less than a week removed from his biggest career win to date, Bermane Stiverne has been delivered his most promising news as a professional prizefighter. Negotiations are officially underway for the once beaten heavyweight contender to next face Vitali Klitschko for a heavyweight title. The WBC notified both camps that Stiverne is now the official mandatory challenger, thanks to his HBO-televised 12-round rout over Chris Arreola on the road last weekend in Ontario, California. The two sides will have 30-days to work out an agreement, or else the proposed bout will head to a purse bid on June 3 at the WBC headquarters in Mexico City.

That’s not the brash British contender’s motivation, though. In fact, the huge heavyweight is convinced he won’t fight Wladimir Klitschko or WBC champion Vitali Klitschko before either brother retires from boxing. “I don’t think they will fight me,” Fury, 24, said after a press conference Wednesday in Manhattan to promote his 12-round fight against Cunningham on Saturday in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. “Wladimir won’t fight me because he’s got nothing to gain. WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko appears to have ruled out being David Haye's comeback opponent. Haye, the former undisputed cruiserweight and WBA heavyweight champion, will announce his return to boxing at a press conference on Thursday having not fought since stopping domestic rival Dereck Chisora inside five rounds in their grudge match last July. Haye has stated on several occasions since then that only a fight with either of the Klitschko brothers, who hold all four recognised world titles, would tempt him back into the ring. But IBF, WBO and WBA champion Wladimir, who comfortably beat the Londoner in 2011 on points, will face Francesco Pianeta in May and WBC belt-holder Vitali has now said Haye must wait his turn.
