The October 4 installment of ‘Boxeo Telemundo’ has one of the better main events in the series’ recent history. Unbeaten prospects Matthew Villanueva and Daniel Lozano meet in a schedule 12-round super flyweight bout, headlining a card aptly named ‘Undefeated Showdown,’ which takes place at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, Florida.
“We are thrilled with “Undefeated Showdown” to have in the main event two hungry, young, undefeated fighters looking for glory,” said promoter Felix ‘Tuto’ Zabala, Jr. “You can’t ask for anything better. We had a sold out on our last show in Tampa and we are looking forward on doing it again come October 4th.”
The crossroads bout serves as part of the third installment of the fall season, in line with the series’ new format of four consecutive weeks of shows three times per year. Season one aired in late February and early March; the second season took place in late June and early July.
Villanueva (10-0-1, 8KO) signed with All-Star Boxing earlier this year, a move that came in conjunction with his Telemundo debut. The 5’7” super flyweight recorded a 10-round decision over Julian Rivera this past June in Mexico, a bout which served as the headliner for the first episode of Boxeo Telemundo’s summer season.
Lozano (11-0, 8KO) comes in as the local favorite, having fought at the A La Carte on five previous occasions. However, the bout is also his first piece of ring action since Feb. ’12.
