BoxingScene.com reached out to Victor Ortiz's manager, Rolando Arrellano, to get his take on the mounting rumors of a possible showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ortiz.

Ortiz has become a hot commodity since his impressive win over the heavily favored Andre Berto in which he captured the WBC welterweight title. As surprising as it may be, numerous outlets have have actually written articles based on a "boxrec listing" where the new welterweight champion is being listed as a comeback opponent for Mayweather on a date of September 17.

Arrellano quickly dismissed those rumors to BoxingScene.

"That is a false rumor. I'm not sure where these things come from," Arrellano said.

A source close to Mayweather's team said the boxer had no knowledge of a comeback fight with Ortiz.

Arrellano went on to say that Ortiz is enjoying his time off and he will look to secure him a fight soon.

Ortiz is currently in his home state of Kansas where tomorrow will be honored by the Governor.  Arrellano told BoxingScene, "Victor is in Kansas and is going to get a proclamation from the Governor tomorrow and tomorrow is officially Victor Ortiz Day throughout the state."
