Victor Ortiz is Still on Target For a Fall Ring Return
By Francisco Salazar
Golden Boy Promotions is aiming for Victor Ortiz to return to the ring in either September or October, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told Boxingscene.com on Saturday evening.
Ortiz has not fought since being stopped after the ninth round at the hands of Josesito Lopez on June 23rd in Los Angeles, CA. During the bout, Lopez suffered two fractures to his jaw that had to be operated on.
Most recently, Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KOs) participated and was eliminated from the popular “Dancing with the Stars” show.
Gomez is confident Ortiz will return in the fall.
“That’s what we have planned for him. He has expressed an interest to return then. He’s already in the gym training.”
Ortiz, who resides in Ventura, CA, also trains in the coastal city at the Knuckleheadz Gym. A few months ago, Ortiz shook out at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, fueling speculation he might work with trainer Freddie Roach.
A few weeks after the Lopez fight, Ortiz amicably split with trainer Danny Garcia. Ortiz originally worked with trainer Robert Garcia.
No word yet on whom Ortiz would face, but fighters like Robert Guerrero have been mentioned as a possible opponent.

Vic's desire, IMO, is gone & he will not b a threat 4 a title...he's got a long way to return unless he just jumps back in w/ a valid opponent...Comment by newcastleking on 06-25-2013
How can i have forgotten, a Maidana rematch too, but Maidanas up there ready for a title shot or Alexander rematch i think.Comment by newcastleking on 06-25-2013
First off he should face like Cano, Mosley or Aydin, something like that. If Ortiz passes, so many names Berto/Karass or a rematch with Peterson or Lopez. Alexander or Guerrero. All would be good a s s fights.Comment by ddangerous on 06-25-2013
