Victor Ortiz in The Running To Face Saul Alvarez on 9/15

By Miguel Rivera & Victor Gonzalez, notifight.com

According to several sources, former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22KOs) is under serious consideration  to face WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Ortiz will face Josesito Lopez (29-4, 17KOs) on June 23 in Los Angeles.

Chepo Reynoso, the coach for Alvarez, would not confirm if Ortiz was the frontrunner but he states that his team is close to finalizing an opponent.

"So far the stage and date are firm, and we are very close to securing the opponent," said Chepo. "At this point we don't not want to confirm anything so we don't affect the [ongoing] negotiations."

If Alvarez fights and beats Ortiz, I bet money Alvarez fights either Cotto or Mayweahter in December.
