Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macau, Macau - Two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1KO) won a twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-2, 33KOs) to retain the WBO featherweight championship for the first time. All three judges had it a shutout, 120-107.

Lomachenko took control early, using his boxing skills to frustrate Piriyapinyo in the early rounds. It was a calculated boxing match with Lomachenko using pawing shots to set up much bigger punches. Lomachenko was really working over Piriyapinyo in the third with shots to the head and body. The Thai challenger was barely able to keep up as he was getting hit with shots from all angles.

At the end of the fourth, Lomachenko sent Piriyapinyo down for the fist time in his career with multi-punch combination that was closed by a big left hand. Piriyapinyo got up and appeared to have his senses. Piriyapinyo had a better effort in the fifth when targeting the body of Lomachenko, who came back strong at the end of the sixth round to once again hurt Piriyapinyo.

In the seventh round, it seemed that Lomachenko badly hurt his left hand. He went back to his corner at the end of the round shaking the hand. At the start of the eight, Lomachenko was barely using his left hand in any manner. He was mostly moving around the ring, grabbing and using his right.

Despite the injury, Lomachenko continued to dominate the action by outboxing Piriyapinyo in every single round that followed.
