Undefeated junior welterweight contender Jesse Vargas appeared on this week's edition of BoxingScene.com's weekly radio show, The Boxing Lab. Vargas, who fights under the banner of Mayweather Promotions, touched on a variety of subjects. One of those subjects was a recent report that ran on BoxingScene in which Vargas' promoter Floyd Mayweather was asked about a potential clash with WBA/IBF 140 kingpin Amir Khan. Mayweather deflected the question and said that his fighter (Jesse Vargas) had asked him to get him Khan.
When asked if he felt that he was ready for Khan, Vargas told The Boxing Lab "After this fight with [Josesito] Lopez I will be ready. I think every fighter wants to fight the top fighter in his weight class. Khan is the top the fighter in mine so I want to fight him."
BoxingScene has ran numerous stories outlining Khan's plan for his next three fights. According to his plan, he is to return in December in his final fight at 140 pounds and then move up to 147 in the spring and then faces Mayweather in a fall 2012 showdown. Vargas thinks that Khan should face him if he really wants to fight Mayweather.
"He keeps saying he wants to fight Floyd. If he really wants to fight Floyd then he has to fight me first," Vargas told The Boxing Lab.
