Vanes Martirosyan-Willie Nelson in Play For 10/4, SHO

By Ryan Burton

Cameron Dunkin, manager of junior middleweight contender Willie Nelson (23-1-1), has advised that a fight between Nelson and former title challenger Vanes Martirosyan (34-1) is being discussed for October 4th.

If an agreement is reached the fight will be broadcast on Showtime and take place at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut.  As previously reported, newly crowned IBF super featherweight champion Rances Barthelemy (20-0) will face Fernando David Saucedo (52-5-3) in the main event.

Nelson just fought on August 8th when he survived a few rocky moments to defeat Luis Grajeda via unanimous decision on ESPN Friday Night Fights.  Martirosyan last fought in March when he deafeated Mario Lozano via unanimous decision in a bout also televised on ESPN.

Nelson ain't no Paul Williams but he's a scrappy bugger. He'll make the fight exciting for however long Vanes allows him to hang around.

Vanes should win it...Nelson's record is deceiving, he's not that skilled..could have been a better opponent for a Sho main...

I have Vanes winning this fight. It'll be a good win for him and could set him up for a rematch with Lara or a fight with Molina.
