WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38KOs) has lashed out at David Haye, the WBA's champion. Klitschko says Haye (25-1, 23KOs) is trying to avoid a fight with his mandatory challenger, Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KOs). Vitali is claiming that Haye's team is using Chagaev's medical condition to avoid the fight. The 32-year-old Uzbek suffers from Hepatitis B.
Vitali brings up how his younger brother Wladimir had a simple shot from a medical physician and went forward with a June 2009 fight with Chagaev, which Wladimir won by knockout. The British Boxing Board is reviewing Chagaev's medical records and plan to issue a decision this week.
"First, Haye has signed a contract for a fight with Wladimir, but later escaped like a coward. Thus he placed us in a difficult position because of the the minimum amount of time that we had to pick a new opponent for my brother. As a result, Wladimir then went into the ring against Ruslan Chagaev. The same Chagaev who Haye doesn't want to fight right now and continues to talk about his disease. Meanwhile, Wladimir fought with him without any problems," Klitschko told Daily Sport.
"Haye had a fight with me, but at the last minute broke away and David signed a contract to fight with Nikolai Valuev. He fled from the fights with us, but we're still trying to put ourselves in good lights. What can I say, he's a clown."
