Ustinov vs Gavern in Place for 4/26 in Kharkiv, Ukraine

By Alexey Sukachev

Towering heavyweight contender Alexander Ustinov (26-0, 20 KOs) will bounce back into action on April 26 at the Palace of Sports in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The 6’8’’ giant, who is presently ranked #3 by the WBA, #5 by the WBO and #10 by the IBF, faces a rugged American charge in the game’s veteran Jason Gavern (21-9-4, 10 KOs) a well-known journeyman/gatekeeper of the heavyweight division. The IBO I/C title will reportedly be at stake in this fight.

Ustinov vs. Gavern headlines the local boxing event, which will also feature several appealing match-ups, including a clash between cruiserweight prospects Pavel Zhuravliov (8-1, 5 KOs) and Vitaly Nevesioliy (12-0, 7 KOs). The entire show will be staged by K2 Ukraine Promotions.

gavern is a decent opponent but ustinov keeps fighting this level of competition & needs to start fighting B level guys like kevin johnson, fres oquendo, oliver mccall. gavern is a solid fighter but a C+ level gatekeeper at best.…
