U.S. Olympic Team Last Chance Qualifier Day 2 Results

(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – A jam-packed day of boxing showcased 88 second round bouts on Tuesday at the Taft Masonic Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. All of the day’s victors moved one step closer to an Olympic Team Trials berth with their win in Tuesday’s competition.

Eight of the ten weight classes took the ring on Tuesday with the light flyweight and flyweight participants being the only competitors not to box on the second day of action. Following only two bouts on the opening day of the tournament, 16 middleweight bouts took place on Tuesday. 2010 USA Boxing National Champion Luis Arias (Milwaukee, Wis.) enjoyed a short and successful opener in his bout with James Berry (Jamul, Calif.). Arias stopped Berry in the first round of their middleweight contest to advance on to the third round where he will face Jamal Robinson (Cleveland, Ohio).

In afternoon action, 2010 USA Boxing National Championships silver medalist Alex Martin (Chicago, Ill.) suffered a second round upset loss to Shakor Jackson (Newark, N.J.). Jackson pulled out a 13-10 decision to move on to a Wednesday match-up with 2010 National Golden Gloves champion David Grayton (Washington DC).

Seven weight classes will compete in quarterfinal competition on Wednesday with the light welterweight, welterweight and middleweight classes all boxing in third round action. Last Chance Qualifier competition will resume on Wednesday with sessions at noon and 6 p.m. at the Taft Masonic Center.

All of the champions from the Last Chance Qualifier tournament will earn the final berths in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing, July 31-August 6 in Mobile, Ala.
