HATTON PROMOTIONS' unbeaten heavyweight prospects Richard Towers and Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne will face each other Down Under this summer.

The exciting 12 round battle will take place on a show promoted in association with Barry Michael Sports at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington, Australia on Thursday July 25.

The pair were due to meet in Hong Kong last December, but Towers was forced to withdraw because of a perforated ear drum sustained in sparring.

"I believe this is a fight that boxing fans are going to enjoy," said Browne's manager Matt Clark. "Two big undefeated heavyweights going at it without a hint of trash talk.

"It's the kind of fight where anything can happen at any moment and that's what the heavyweight division needs.

"It's another great fight for Lucas to learn from and propel his career to greater heights. He's hungry to reach the top and to do that he needs to beat Richard Towers. I believe he will."

Browne will be on home soil this time, but he doesn't feel that will play a huge role in the outcome of the fight.

He does, however, believe a win will move him towards a potential world title shot.

"I'm so excited for this one and I just hope it goes ahead this time," Browne said.

"I'm sure Richard will be well prepared and will be ready so I don't think being at home will be a big advantage.

"Beating James Toney last time was the step forward I needed and it also gave me a little more exposure in the US.

"Now I've got a different challenge to overcome and I think if I win a legitimate world title shot is a year or so away, provided I keep learning and keep winning.

"I've got the WBF world title at the moment, but am chasing the big belts and big dollars."

Tom Stokes makes his professional debut at Walsall Town Hall later this month.

The West Bromwich Welterweight takes on experienced Bheki Moyo on the undercard of Martin Gethin’s IBF Final Eliminator with Ammeth Diaz at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 31st May.

“I’m training hard at the moment,” Stokes told www.uko-boxing.com . “I’m a little nervous but that’s to be expected.

"It’s a dream to turn pro on such a big night of boxing. Bheki Moyo is an experienced opponent so it’s a good first test for me.”

As an amateur, Stokes fought out of both Wednesbury ABC and Wodensborough ABC. He now trains out of Errol Johnson’s Wednesbury Boxing Academy with the likes of Martin Gethin and Wolverhampton super-featherweight Dezzie Bowater, who is making his debut on the same night.

Amongst those he works with is former Midlands Area Welterweight Champion, Jason Welborn. Stokes is a big fan of the Rowley Regis banger and is grateful that Welborn has taken him under his wing.

“I was just ready to move away from the amateur game and I’m really lucky to be training with fighters like Jason Welborn now,” he added. “I learn a lot from him.

“He’s someone I look up to. He’s a good boxer. I think he’s class. He’s a really nice guy as well and he’s helping me along.

“He looks after me and I look up to him I suppose. He’s helping me with my training for this fight and I really appreciate the support he’s been giving me.

“It will be a big night; for me and everyone else on the bill.”

As well as Gethin versus Diaz, ‘Ready To Silence The World’ also features Walsall Cruiserweight, Chris Keane, who competes for the vacant WBO International Cruiserweight Title.

Top Welsh super-featherweight, Craig Evans, and unbeaten Boston light-heavyweight prospect Callum Johnson are also both in action whilst former Commonwealth Welterweight title challenger Ronnie Heffron features.

Swadlincote super middleweight Craig Willshee makes his professional debuts alongside Stokes and Bowater. Undefeated Stafford super-middleweight prospect Grant Cunningham is also in action.

Tickets, priced at £40 and £75 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900. Doors will open at 6pm and boxing will commence at 6.30pm.

Gethin v Diaz will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).  Join at www.boxnation.com .

In preparations for an imminent fight with British contender Ashley Theophane, IBO Welterweight champion Chris Van Heerden makes another leap towards his dreams - heading to America.

On July 18th, Chris Van Heerden will depart from his home area of Gauteng, SA for New York City to begin a prolonged training camp. He plans to get much work done in "The city that never sleeps" with some of the best sparring available - including African boxer Thabiso Mchunu.

This experience is well needed for his fight with Theophane, which is expected to take place "later this Summer" either in the United Kingdom or New York, it will require his most devoted focus in camp ever. Theophane is a world-class fighter with a stiff jab, long reach and superb boxing ability. Van Heerden will need to siege control of the fight early to avoid falling behind against his opponent.

As previously mentioned one of his main sparring partners for this fight will be Crusierweight title contender and heavily explosive boxer Thabiso Mchunu. He is set to fight on August 3rd in New York against Eddie Chambers. Mchunu can mock a more engaging version of Theophane with his long reach and capricious style of fighting. He himself is gaining the opportunity of the lifetime against Chambers and will be training at an equally vigorous pace as Van Heerden.

Team Van Heerden is thrilled about the opportunity to open to a wider audience. Training and perhaps fighting in the United States will increase his marketability on a much widened scale and allow his career to blast off against the biggest names in the fight game.

Don't miss Chris on Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour June 2nd in the United Kingdom! He will be continuously discussing his upcoming fight, his career and future in the coming months.

(Bolton) - Haroon Khan (2-0, 1 KO) can’t wait for his next challenge after producing an emphatic performance in his US debut as he spectacularly blitzed his way past Vicente Medellin (0-6) in just 57 seconds.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist showed off his impressive skill set as he overwhelmed his American opponent from the outset at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

An initial left-right combination had Medellin staggered and backpedalling before a right cross put him down. Medellin quickly jumped back up following the knockdown but was still noticeably hurt before Khan finished him off with a crushing left hook to the body.

The Bolton ace was coming off a win from his professional debut only last month against Brett Fidoe in Sheffield where he won a unanimous points decision over four rounds.

The 22-year-old bantamweight, and brother of former unified world champion, Amir, is now looking ahead and can’t wait to get back in the ring soon.

“I’m raring to go again after that win,” said Khan. “I followed the instructions from my team to get on him and start quick and it worked perfectly. The fact I only fought three weeks before this fight meant I was in great shape and felt in fantastic condition. My aim now is to stay busy and keep as active as possible. I’m hoping to get on a few more big shows like this one in Atlantic City over the next year. My team has been discussing getting me on some other huge cards and that type of experience is only going to help my progression as a fighter.”

Trainer, Oliver Harrison, said: “I’m very pleased with Haroon’s performance and how he went out there and executed the game plan so well. We knew we could cause this kid problems by getting on him from the start and using Haroon’s jab and reach to help create openings. Once he was hurt there was no way Haroon was going to let him off and the way he finished to the body was great to see. Haroon’s constantly improving and I think over the next few fights everyone will see why I have so much belief in him.”

The youngster will now take the next few weeks off as he celebrates the wedding of his older sibling who gets married later this month in New York before lining up his next opponent.

Richard Towers was awful in his last fight, he's going no where

From what I've seen of both Browne is the better fighter. Better technique, more powerful and better stamina. Anyone can get caught at heavyweight though so could be interesting.
