UFC President Dana White admits that there is a good chance that Conor McGregor will never fight again, after receiving a massive payday for a potential fight with former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Last week in London, Mayweather - who retired in September 2015 - said there was a "90%" chance that he would face McGregor in a cross-sports boxing match.

"If I do fight, there's a 90 per cent chance it's against Conor McGregor," Mayweather said. "The only sort of numbers I worry about are pay-per-view numbers. I have to see what the next move is. The only fight that makes sense to me is the McGregor fight. I've accomplished everything I want to accomplish. Conor McGregor is professional and so am I. He's a stand-up fighter and I'm a stand-up fighter. He kicks ass in the octagon and I kick ass in the boxing ring. The fans demand that fight and you have to give the fans what they want to see."

McGregor, 28, last week applied for a boxing licence in Nevada and there has been mounting speculation the pair will meet later this year.

White believes McGregor could earn as much as $75 million for the fight and he doesn't expect McGregor to continue fighting in the UFC for a fraction of the money.

“Conor could make $75 million [but] how do you come back [to UFC] and fight [for] $10 million? He may never fight again,” White said during an interview with Snoop Dogg for GGN News on Westfest TV.

“You have to be hungry and you may not be hungry with $75 million in the bank, but he is hungry for Mayweather and hungry to prove people wrong.”

White expects McGregor to land punches in the fight and he's not sure if Mayweather's chin will be able to take the power.

“Does that fight make sense for my business? No,” White said. “But I promise you one thing, Conor McGregor will hit him. Imagine if Conor knocked Mayweather out. Oh s**t!”
