The return of former champion Hernan "Tyson" Marquez (34-3, 25KOs) has been set down for March 23rd at a new baseball stadium in Hermosillo, Sonora. Marquez's opponent will be announced shortly and TV Azteca will televise. The new stadium will host the Caribbean Baseball Series, being held from the 1st to the 7th of February.
In his last match, Marquez was knocked down three times and stopped by WBO champion Brian Viloria in the tenth round of their flyweight unification bout on November 17th.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com - if Viloria remains at flyweight, then Marquez wants a rematch in the fall. If Viloria moves up to the super flyweight division, then Marquez is looking to face unbeaten Milan Melindo (28-0, 11KOs) for the vacant WBO belt.
"We are going to pursue a rematch with Viloria in the second half of 2013, but if Viloria decides to move up in weight to super flyweight, then Tyson will go after the vacant WBO title, against Filipino Milan Melindo," said promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions.
"Hernan Marquez has our full support. He is a fighter of great courage and the public likes him, television likes him. He is young, healthy and very dedicated, and certainly will be a world champion again."
