Former champion Hernan "Tyson" Marquez (36-4, 26KO's) is already regrouping after Saturday's twelfth round knockout defeat to Giovani Segura at the CUM in Hermosillo. It was a spectacular fight with high-action, fast-paced and breathtaking emotion from the crowd.
There some scary moments after the fight, where Marquez was barely able to move around.
After being checked in the hospital after the fight, Dr. Arturo Arellano and Neurologist Dr. Monreal issued a diagnosis indicating that Marquez suffered severe dehydration, and because of that, and the activity of the fight, he suffered a heat stroke inside the ring.
"The fight was exciting for the fans, but I could not give more of myself because after the sixth round I felt very weak , especially the legs and I needed air. Segura beat me well and I'm not making any excuses. He is a great fighter, but I was not 100% because my body would not respond," Marquez said.
"It took a lot of work to lose that last few pounds. I will make changes in my life, in my behavior outside the ring, in planning my diet.......many things will change no doubt."
¨Even when I felt excruciating cramping in my legs and extreme fatigue, I never wanted to crack and gave everything and was willing to die on the line. I am not fully satisfied that we provide a memorable fight for the people, because I wanted to win"
"The doctor advised me to rest and I need it. Thank God nothing happened to me and it is a clear message that I should not return where I am that dehydrated at that end. I will improve in every way and I welcome a rematch with Segura."
