German heavyweight Erkan Teper was appointed official challenger for EBU champ Tyson Fury on January 22 and there was then a period for private negotiations. No agreement has been reached and the EBU are now calling for purse bids. Bids received will be opened April 13 at noon (Rome time).
Teper, now 14-0, won the vacant IBF I/C title this past weekend with a unanimous points win over Frenchman Johan Duhaupas (31-2).
Fury, 24-0, has of course his sight set on a showdown with Wladimir Klitschko and will most likely relinquish the the EBU title, which means we will see Teper vs the highest available challenger. There are some very interesting names in the EBU top five in Alexander Povetkin, Kubrat Pulev, Dereck Chisora, Anthony Joshua and Artur Szpilka and it´s likely it will be one of them that take on Teper in a few months.
