Former IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) would be interested in a fight with Liverpool's Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs), who moved up to the heavyweight ranks after capturing WBC gold at cruiserweight.
Bellew made his heavyweight debut back in March with an upset stoppage victory over former two division champion David Haye, who suffered an injury during the fight.
A rematch was scheduled for next month at the O2 Arena in London. It fell out when Haye withdrew with a bicep injury.
The rematch with Haye is being touted for a rescheduled date in March or May of next year, but there is no guarantee that rematch will happen. Haye has a long history with fight withdrawals. He pulled out of two scheduled dates to fight Fury several years ago.
Fury is back in training and he's attempting to regain his license to box. He aims to return to the ring by April of next year.
In a recent interview, Bellew expressed his interest in a potential fight with Fury.
While Fury has offered very little praise to heavyweight kingpin Anthony Joshua, he appears to have a lot of respect for the skills and attributes of Bellew.
“He says he’s not frightened of big guys and he wants to fight the biggest of them all. I don’t know how realistic he is with his comments on Soccer AM but that’s another lucrative fight for both fighters and we are in this to make a living and take punches to the face, which would be a good fight for me," Fury told Talk Sport.
“Tony is a quick fighter and with him being a cruiserweight/light heavyweight he will have the speed and movement over me, which could counteract my size, and he also has quite a lot of power. I’ve seen him knock quite a few people out.
“Maybe it’s a difficult fight for me but that’s a fight I would take.”
