Tyson, Duran Watch Miranda-Despaigne Trade Words
By Rick Reeno
On Wednesday afternoon, boxing legends Mike Tyson and Roberto Duran were present at the Cosmopolitan Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The two Hall of Fame boxers sat back and watched light heavyweights Edison Miranda (34-5, 29KOs) and Yordanis Despaigne (8-1, 4KOs) trade words during the final press conference for this Friday's ESPN televised, which takes place at the Cosmopolitan. Junior welterweights Lamont Peterson and Victor Cayo are matched in the main event in an IBF mandatory elminator.
Both Tyson and Duran were unable to control their laughter, as Miranda verbally abused Despaigne.
"I'm not worried about this dead man over here. Look at him, I can tell that he's real nervous. When I arrived to Las Vegas, I looked up to the sky and I saw the stars, but I didn't see this guy. This guy is nothing. He's not even a fighter. How in the world did he fool a man like [promoter] Luis DeCubas Sr. into thinking he was a fighter? My last opponent, I beat the Russian up bad and made him get eye surgery. This guy, I promise that I'm going to knock him out," Miranda said.
Despaigne didn't seem worried, telling media members - "I'm not afraid of this guy."
During the face to face, promoter Leon Margules and some of the Cosmo security were required to separate the two boxers as the verbal battle was about to get physical.
I rather wanna watch Mike Tyson and Roberto Duran.Comment by frosty-g on 07-28-2011
wasn't that funny actually. all the people laughing at anything that came out of mirandas mouth just had a canned laughter effect where people watching the video end up thinking it was funny.Comment by CubanGuyNYC on 07-28-2011
despaigne's team picked a good opponent in Edison. The guy had heart stopping power and strength at 160 and very good at 168 but 175 is a weight I think takes away his biggest advantages. Edison truly has been thru…Comment by freedom213 on 07-28-2011
The Miranda fight is already big for Despaigne, who lost his last outing against Ismayl Sillakh. Yordanis -- 31 years old, but only nine professional fights -- is stepping up the competition very quickly. If he drops this next fight…Comment by CubanGuyNYC on 07-27-2011
Yes the translation sucked. It is much funnier in Spanish. Miranda is a star from where he came from. He has only lost to the best. Too bad he hasn't been able to make it big. He sure can sell…Post a Comment/View More User Comments (16)
